POETRY (selected from 2011-2014)

Ennui

The Script In Motion On the Train
Holding a blank script
Riding a booming train
Choosing a window seat
Blowing — a long, long wind
I wrote the first sentence of the first scene
If you were on the train with me
or
If you and I meet on the train
The conductor comes up to check for tickets
Tickets?
Does anyone need a ticket?
In the first sentence of the second scene, I wrote
The train goes on
Both the sleeping and awake
Are twisted by the bumps
You pass in front of me
I am writing about you with my head down
A person coughs
Everyone watches
In the first sentence of the third scene, I wrote
The railway announcer's throat is swollen
It causes every station name to sound the same
Where is the train now?
Where is the train now?
Where is the train now?
The passengers ask
I do not know
I'm not waiting for a particular stop
I wrote the first sentence of the fourth scene
Train in the wind in time and space
The person who has been waiting
Is constantly being moved

If the Wind Hadn't Suddenly Stopped
The corridor is too short
I stretched out my hand and it was full of stars and moons
An unmanned landscape
You went to see
And never came back
The whole month of March mishears the sound of rain
The whole mountain misreads the shadow of the tree
The whole river misguides the boat
Birds misunderstand the sky
If the wind hadn’t suddenly stopped
I’d just keep falling
below
falling
below
falling
below
falling
below
Like a river swallowing rain
Like a strawberry crushing itself in a jar
Jam eaters
Never stick out their tongues
But take a closer look
Why is this jam so sweet?
When had the waking of insects
Become muffled?
If the wind hadn’t suddenly stopped
I wouldn't be surprised
The tender month of April*
It was written the two poets would say goodbye
She was here
She might never have been
*reference to the poem You Are the Tender Month of April by Lin Huiyin (b.1904), who was a Chinese architect and architectural historian, and poet.

Ennui
Read about Baudelaire’s ennui in the History of Experimental Film
By coincidence, in the next second I open to Chen Yuhong’s poem, which also refers to Baudelaire’s ennui
“One day had passed, passed, passed."
Cheese is memory is a piece of hardened years
Alcohol is memory used to fight hardening or to accelerate hardening
It is said that cheese paired with wine makes people lose weight
Drink cheese, eat wine, eat cheese, drink wine, drink cheese, eat wine, eat cheese
Read it again
"You are an endless road, and I am a window that never moves"
Endure. Enjoy. Endure.
If ennui is me and you are a movie, or vice versa
Unless
You are not the road, and I am not the window

We Agreed To Elope When The Whale Is Breathing
We agreed to elope when the whale is breathing
Jump into a sea of wine undrunk for a hundred years
Put sad golden coins in it
Drink one bite at a time
When the whale takes a breath, we
Elope again
Rushing into an acre of fields that is warming in spring
See the elk remove the horns from its head
Is it true that only when the whale breathes
We breathe together
We will love each other until we are old
Otherwise we will keep pretending to be asleep until
We hear that one day the whale finally stopped breathing

Little Poem in Six Beats: Convergent Language
FIRST
A poem by the sky
Can only be carved on the bodies
Of stones
SECOND
Fine light
Combed
The hair of some things
But could not comb
My neglected heart
THIRD
From the integers
Fractions
Are omitted
And also
And also
FOURTH
The sun
Scorched a basin
Of water that reflected its own face
All the tears
Evaporated
FIFTH
One day our imprinted flesh
Will return to the quiet
Rain—
Stopping, starting again
SIXTH
The ribs don’t say anything about
Supporting the umbrella for a lifetime

When Words Change Form
Like a Tao-tie*
Media are gluttonous
The bones of messengers
Hanging in the mountains like a row of fading clothes
Drying to a crisp
God does not care
We’ve become the most talkative mutes
In the history of the earth
Sign languages committing self-immolation
While hugging each other in front of
Clacking keyboards
Cigarette tears float in the air
Our emptiness scares emptiness itself
The font is getting thinner
Lips are vainly bouncing on the wire
Eyeballs have been bought by the big shots
And boiled in a pot of hi-tech sweet sago
Chang-ghosts* sit around drinking,
Chatting to each other
With their fingers
Will I still know
Will you still know
That love exists in this world
When words change form?
The bones of messengers
Hanging in the mountains like a row of fading clothes
Drying to a crisp
Will you still know
Will I still know
That love exists

*Tao-tie: A Chinese mythical motif. Chinese people believe this creature can eat a lot, especially human beings. Sometimes translated as Gluttonous Ogre.
*The Chang Ghost: A Chinese term, ghost of sb devoured by a tiger who helps the tiger devour others. Same as holding a candle to the devil.
Not as good as
Sometimes too much love is not as good as a short poem
Sometimes a long poem is not as good as a long time love

Two Short Chants
(Happiness)
Fragile and delicate
In the palm of a child
It’s stable and fits just right
In our grown-up hand
Happiness seems small
(Desire)
Desire cupped in my hands
Tells me something about this world
No matter where I am
Crawl! Take a long jump!
Become the eyes of an animal!

Hsing-Hsin’s Poetry and Photography
Publisher: Liu Hsing-Hsin; 2013
博客來網路書店books.com.tw; 誠品線上elite.com
Hsing-Hsin’s Poetry and Photography consists of two parts. One is a set of photographs based on the concept of genderlessness. It is hoped that when gender is subtracted from the portraits the viewer can focus on the essence of people. The other part is a set of poems. They express the author's many years of confusion about life, love and death, and were written from 2007 to 2013.
